Discipline is a structure designed by elders, parents, teachers, institutes, organisations moreover by external force, where as Self- discipline is the ability to motivate oneself in spite of negative emotional state. It is the ability to take action regardless of your emotional state. It involves acting according to what you think instead of how you feel in the moment. Self –discipline is training and controlling one’s conduct usually for personal improvement. It in no means being harsh to yourself but it is about loving yourself. Self discipline requires will power, hard work and persistence. The hard work here doesn’t mean working for long hours but getting aligned with proper system and structure while handling your emotions. The optimum result is achieved when you do it persistently and not on ‘ON AND OFF’ mode. Every individual by nature doesn’t admire to be under a system, structure or set of rules for a long time it hardly matters how lovable or respectful person is who has set it up and how beneficial it turns.

Self—discipline is like owning your own company, you have your own set of rules and regulation, system and structure. You monitor your own work, the outcomes and the backlogs. The best part is you only know your strength and weakness and capable of overcoming your weakness and moving along with your strength if you want to. Everyone knows what is to be done to be successful and what is not to be done. If sometimes it seems, how to be done is a challenge, actually it is not a challenge at all, as it can be learnt. To develop self – discipline it requires focusing on certain values. The first and foremost thing is to focus on Acceptance. The most difficult work for an individual is to accept himself and his present situation. To increase self – discipline one need to know where you stand right now, get aware of your strength and weakness, limitations, fear and discipline at the moment and accept them whole heartedly without justification. Once you accept yourself and the situation the way they are the path for action becomes clearer. It is a fact that action requires Will power and will power is the ability to set a course of action and say JUST DO IT! Will power is the powerful force that promotes self – discipline. It is a force with which you can attack your weakest point and finish it off. Will power has short life so it must be used with immediate action. Self – -discipline also requires Hard work. Hard work is the last thing which anyone wants in their life. Here the hard work is that which challenges you. Much tougher challenges will usually see a lot more opportunity. Strong challenges are always connected with strong results. Hard work is not easy but worth it. The next step to be self – -disciplined is to be Industrious it simply means putting in time where it is needed. If you put your time efficiently you’ll complete more tasks. Disciplining yourself to be industrious allows you to squeeze more value of your time. Time is constant but your productivity is not. Persistence is the most required to acquire self – discipline. Persistence is the ability to maintain action regardless of your feelings. You keep on doing even when you feel like quitting. Persistence does not require motivation it provides its own motivation as you keep in working it give results and results are always motivating. It is also essential to know that what you are persistent about. It should be about the work which takes you towards your goal and not which you stubbornly cling to.
