It gives a Aa- ha! feeling with so much exposure. This generation is lucky enough to be well equipped to move forward and succeed. With so much of development all around the mindset of the teens have also changed.
All these character traits if developed during teenage gives big results. It may be possible you already have them but practising them on regular basis would help you to move forward towards your goal and be successful.
The teens of today are ambitious, hard working seeking their own identity and moreover want to sustain in the competitive world. Supportive parents and good educators are of great help. This is the age when teens design their future, the journey from goal setting to accomplishing goals is challenging. Here comes the necessity of developing certain character traits which makes the journey easy to achieve success, sustain it and enjoy it too. Some of them are as follows:
Positive attitude—Your attitude is your point of view, your outlook for life, your state or mind. It determines the choice you make and how you feel about the people, things and events around you. When you have positive attitude, you see the brighter side of people, and situation. You can choose to react to each situation you encounter. This gives you enormous personal power—to control yourself from the inside out, to direct your own future.
Caring—Caring for others make life meaningful it gives joy, inspiration and satisfaction. You attract love, respect and generosity from others. You become a magnet for positive thoughts and actions. It can be done with your actions, words, thoughts and gifts. This is the trait that keeps you emotionally healthy as positive emotions give you energy while negative emotions drain your energy.
Choice and accountability— Any choice you make should be conscious and informed i.e. think it through and gather information. Weigh your choices and possible consequences and then make your decision. Sometimes the choices you make aren’t choices at all they are habits so learn to differentiate between the two. When you make a choice be accountable for it. By doing so you take the responsibility for the choice you have made and there is no blaming or complains. You put all your energy and work wholeheartedly to be successful.
Citizenship—Citizenship usually refers to your membership in, responsibility towards, or contribution to your family, community and your conduct within your community and nation. It helps you to be an active participant in your family, school and community. You help people, fix things and work to improve conditions for everyone and everything. This will give you confidence and knowledge in dealing with people and work which is required the most.
Cleanliness—It includes keeping your mind and body clean. You will attract people with similar attitudes and goals. You will be more successful because your positive thoughts will attract positive people and experiences.
Communication—The words you speak shows how you feel. You get back what you communicate. In general any movements you make with your body, any sound that comes out of your mouth, the expression you wear, sometimes the things you think or feel, can send a message to someone. It makes sense to learn to communicate clearly and effectively.
Conservation—Often it refers to saving the environment—water, land, plants, animals and air. Conservation can involve everything in your life, you should decide what things are most important to you and work to preserve them or use them wisely. This may include food, money, friendships, energy, peace, your own talents, physical and mental health, time and so on.
Courage—It means doing the right thing, even when it’s scary or difficult. It means that you try your best to succeed, even when success isn’t guaranteed. In fact, the greatest courage often follows failure. You pick yourself up and get back on the horse. The courage is physical, mental and moral courage. You will need courage to achieve your goal, so build it.
Empathy— It means that you can sense, identify with, and understand what another person is feeling. You can almost get inside the person’s head and heart. You can connect and relate to what the person needs. You don’t add to what someone feels. You don’t change the feelings. You accept them. Empathizing someone is not pitying or feeling sorry for him or her. If you have empathy you have compassion for others, you can put yourself in their shoes, drop prejudice and withhold judgement. It will help you to be kind and be free from all the negative emotions for others which drains out energy and reduces productivity.
Endurance—It is the ability to with stand hardship or adversity, to remain firm under suffering or misfortune without yielding. When you have endurance, you stand strong holding your balance physically, emotionally and spiritually without buckling under, losing hope or surrendering. You are patient and know that the bad things happen and you don’t blame anyone. By doing so you take the charge of your life and work for the best.
Forgiveness—It is difficult at this age to forgive someone but when you forgive others or yourself you stop being a victim. You stop suffering. You can turn your pain into strength. You can improve your health, your sense of peace and your happiness. You are free and can work for optimum result. It is worth forgiving not for others but for self.
Health—Being healthy is the prime necessity for any individual and that too at this age when you are designing your future. Being healthy means being physically, mentally and emotionally healthy. It can be taken care with proper nutrition, exercise and positive attitude.
Honesty— Honesty means more than telling the truth. When you are honest, you are sincere, you have a sense of honour and fairness. You are trustworthy and generous, you are not just honest from outside but also honest from inside. You don’t lie to anyone including yourself. This value of honesty keeps you in track and helps you to work at your best level.
Sincerity—When you are sincere you are free from hypocrisy and pretence. You express your feeling openly and honestly. Your speech is natural, without double messages or hidden agendas. People know they can count on you ‘You say what you mean and mean what you say’. This sincerity will attract you to the right people and the right people will lead you to the path of success.
Imagination—It is the power to see the unseen and design or change the puzzle pieces of your own life. Imagination is more important than knowledge. You can have all the tools of knowledge in the world at your finger tips but unless you also have a dream of something you might build, those tools will be useless.
Justice- Just means what is reasonable, proper, righteous, deserved and lawful. Develop justice in your thoughts, behaviour and actions it gives the power to walk on the right path.
Leadership—Leaders are the people who see a problem and fix it, even if they don’t know how. They step forward, sometimes in an emergency, and do what is to be done. They get others to help them. Being a leader takes courage and confidence. Leadership is about taking responsibility and moving forward. Leaders are good followers, they look for people who are good examples. They realize that they don’t know everything, and they still have lot to learn. They seek out mentors.
Loyalty—When you are loyal to people, things and ideas deserve your faithfulness and constancy, you will be happier and more fulfilled. You will be supported and encouraged to develop your talents and become the person you want to be. You will have closer relationships with the people you can trust.
Peacefulness—It is more than absence of conflict or avoiding violence. It doesn’t mean that no one ever disagrees or never loses their temper or act impulsively. It means that people know how to talk to each other and work out their differences and resolve their disagreements. Your peacefulness guides you.
Problem solving—It require several character traits. It means making choices. You need to identify the problem, analyse it, trace your strength and capabilities to solve the problem, take help if required. Never get stuck on the problems solve it and move ahead.
Purpose—Purpose is very personal. It’s is something inside you that you want to develop and pursue. Purpose gives your life a meaning and enables you to make contribution in your own unique way. Once you are clear about your purpose you set goals and achieve them too.
Relationships—Good relationship with family, friends and relatives is the need and desire of every individual. It gives moral and emotional strength which is the basic thing required to be successful and enjoy success it is the hidden and underlying force to move ahead.
Respect—It is essential to respect yourself and respect others. When you respect yourself you gain confidence and trust yourself and when you respect others you see their qualities and strength and learn from them. In both ways you benefit.
Responsibility—It means taking responsibility of your thoughts, actions, dreams, hard work. It helps you to be on track as you are in charge. It also includes moral responsibility, legal responsibility, family responsibility and community responsibility.
Safety—It is not just safety against accidents, fire, floods, earthquake, war or terrorism. It also refers to safe environment free from bulling, vandalism, violence, drugs, alcohol and discipline problems. By developing such safety you can put all your energy in a constructive path.
Self-Discipline—It is the ability to get yourself to take action regardless of your emotional state. Self-Discipline and self-control give you power over your life. It is only when you develop this traits you can grow into wonderful person you’re meant to be.
Wisdom—To be wise means to gather all your experiences—everything you have done, seen, and heard, everywhere you have gone, everyone you have known—and build positive meaning from them to apply to your everyday life. Wisdom is responsible use of knowledge and experiences. If you are wise your door is open for new knowledge, new experiences and new roads to travel and thus growth will be inevitable.
All these character traits if developed during teenage gives big results. It may be possible you already have them but practicing them on regular basis would help you to move forward towards your goal and be successful.
These character traits can be built at any age and stage of life as it gives success and a meaningful, enjoyable life but if developed during the teens the results can be enjoyed from a very early stage.
