Gratitude is a thankful appreciation for what an individual receives, whether tangible or intangible. It is spontaneously generated from within it is an affirmation of goodness. It generates the climate of positivity that reaches both inward and outward.
It is human nature that mind looks for achievements and heart looks for desires and appreciation. The accelerated pace and multiple distraction of modern life have simply made it all too easy to forget the importance of gratitude. The focus is what you don’t have and what you want to have. As a result there is dissatisfaction, stress and depression. The foremost desire of everyone is to enjoy life. Joy is an internal feeling it cannot be measured with the materialistic possession you have. Here comes the role of gratitude. It helps you to refocus on what you have rather than what you lack. Once you are grateful you shift your attention away from toxic emotions. People, who regularly practice gratitude experience more positive emotions, feel more alive, sleep better, express more compassion and kindness and have a strong immune system. They are happier and less depressed.
You feel and express gratitude in multiple ways:
You apply it to the past retrieving positive memories and being thankful for elements of childhood or past blessings.
The present, not taking for granted the good fortune as it comes.
Future – maintains a hopeful and optimistic attitude.
With gratitude you acknowledge the goodness of your life. In the process you recognise that the source of that goodness lies at least partially outside you. It also helps you to connect to something larger than yourselves as individual whether to other people, nature or universe. The source of goodness is outside of us. We acknowledge that other people gave us many gifts big and small to help us achieve the goodness of our lives. Being grateful fills our heart with joy and positivity which makes life beautiful and worth living. The daily practice of gratitude keeps the heart open regardless of what comes your way. Being grateful is a sacred feeling It opens the door to more relationships and opportunities. It improves physical and psychological health. It enhances empathy and reduces aggression. It improves self esteem and increases mental health.
Ways to cultivate gratitude in regular basis:
Write a thank you note to others
Thank someone mentally
Pray
Meditate
Keep a journal, note big and little joys of daily life
Think about the people who have inspired you and what about them was most significant
Imagine what your life would be like if some positive events had not occurred
Once you are grateful for each and everything in your life you are in harmony with self, with others and the universe as a whole. It is a universal law once you are grateful for the things you have you get the things which you don’t have.
Gratitude is a pure, sacred and most powerful emotion, cultivate it and practice to have a beautiful life.
